I've been writing in a journal for almost as long as I can remember. I've used a number of different forms: fancy blank books, plain old spiral notebooks, composition books, moleskines, various computer programs, text files on my computer or shell accounts, index cards, web sites... the list goes on.

I've got a lot of fancy (leather bound and the like) blank books that I'm afraid to "ruin", so they're still on the shell, all pristine. I tend to do my real paper journaling in spiral notebooks and moleskines most often. I like the large moleskine sketchbook for versatility. And I do a lot of one off journal writing pieces on index cards. I'm a total index card junkie.

For writing, I like the sparkly sakura gel pens or regular bic ballpoints in blue. But I've been known to break out a fountain pen now and then.

What about you?

I use composition books and random journals I find at Half Priced Books for my daily lists and notes and then I copy them into something more legible in a fancy journal every night. (or once a week depending on my schedule. ^_^;;)

I like to match the pen to the paper, but 98% of the time I'll write in pencil first and then make any corrections I need to before inking the entry with a Micron. mmm... I love microns. ^___^

Also, I've got an annual Art Journal that I bind by hand each spring and record all my sketches, media experiments, ideas and plots for world domination in during the year. :D :D I'm learning a lot about how books are made and this year I even made some of the paper myself! whoo!

yay journals!

I've been journaling since I was in second grade and I still have it. It was a heat shaped Mickey Mouse journal. The next time I remember keeping another full journal was sixth grade when we went to camp as a grade level. It's fun to read both!

Otherwise, I took a break when I started scrapbooking, but that didn't fulfill my journaling needs. So I started again when I entered college and I've been doing it every day since. I used to fill moleskines, but these days it's easier for me to just record everything online through various sites (livejournal, tumblr, blogger, and now here). I miss paper journals though and hope to get back into it soon!

I have to start trying different medians like you, perhaps some index cards next or go back to spiral notebooks (I tried this briefly when I was in high school).

For writing, I just use cheap pens. I used to use black gel pens, but I write so fast that it was constantly smudging.

Maybe one day I'll get into making some handmade journals. Until then, hopefully I'll go back to paper journaling soon and post some pages here!

I started journalling when I was very young as well. It consisted of such riveting thing as, "It rained today" and "I got hit in the leg in gym class today".

I have since progressed to more complex sentences, but I do it far less frequently now. I usually use pretty plain blank books, as I suffer from the fear of "ruining" the pretty ones as well. For example, I have this one, but I can't bring myself to use it! (This picture does not do it justice, by any means.)
My new journal

I also used to customize blank book fronts for journals, but then I'd never use them. Here's a couple examples:

I've been journaling off and on since fourth grade but only the past month or so have I been doing scrapbooking/painting/etc. in combination.

This is the sort of stuff I've been trying lately and I was looking for a journaling comm that welcomes posts like that and conversations about journaling. I guess this is that place. :)
